Long before Český Krumlov became a UNESCO World Heritage site, its story began deep within the forests of South Bohemia. At a strategic bend of the Vltava River, merchants once crossed the wild waters and built a settlement that would grow into one of the most beautiful towns in Europe.
Its golden age arrived under the Rosenberg family, one of the wealthiest noble dynasties in Central Europe. In the 16th century, they invited Italian architects and artists to transform the medieval fortress into an elegant Renaissance residence, leaving behind colorful facades, charming courtyards, and a touch of Italy in the heart of South Bohemia.
If time and availability allow, we may also visit the extraordinary Baroque Theatre, one of the best-preserved Baroque theatres in Europe, where the original stage machinery, scenery, and costumes have survived almost intact.
Today, Český Krumlov feels like a fairytale frozen in time. The moment we cross the bridge into the old town, you’ll understand why this small South Bohemian gem captivates visitors from around the world.
On our way, we’ll also visit Holašovice, another UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the finest examples of traditional South Bohemian folk architecture.
Two UNESCO treasures, one unforgettable day.
