Prague is often sold as a medieval fairytale, all castles and legends. But if you look deeper—past the postcard views—you’ll find a city that still carries the heavy, cinematic marks of a much darker, yet more heroic past.
For much of the 20th century, this city was trapped. First, in the suffocating grip of Nazi occupation, and then, for decades, behind the Iron Curtain. These were years of hushed whispers, midnight knocks on doors, and the constant, crushing pressure of being a pawn in someone else’s game.
But I don’t want to just talk about the trauma. I want to show you the spirit that survived it.
On this tour, we retrace the path of the people who refused to be silenced. We’ll stand in the very crypt where the Anthropoid heroes made their last, incredible stand. We’ll head underground into the concrete silence of a Cold War bunker to feel the paranoia of that era. And we’ll walk the streets where ordinary people finally found the courage to step out, hold up their keys, and reclaim their country during the Velvet Revolution.
And because history is best digested slowly, we’ll end at Paukert. This isn’t just a deli; it’s a living witness to Prague’s history. Since 1916, Paukert has survived everything the 20th century threw at it. We’ll grab a chlebíček—that perfect, timeless Czech sandwich—and take a moment to breathe. It’s the perfect way to finish: sitting in a place that proved that no matter the regime, the human spirit, and a taste for life, always wins.
